Grant Shapps will have temporary responsibility for the Caribbean as the UK junior foreign office minister, following James Duddridge’s admission to hospital.
This is an extra ministerial position for Shapps and it is sees as a sign of David Cameron’s renewed confidence in him following his sacking in the post-election reshuffle.
This appears to be a relapse for Duddridge as he had a gall bladder operation last year. Shapps will step in until further notice. He is also the minister of state for international development.
Duddridge’s brief includes Africa, parts of the Caribbean, the polar regions and the illegal wildlife trade. Shapps will now oversee the portfolio.
