Young Jhasani Bush releases a yearling turtle into the sea at Barkers in West Bay. The Cayman Turtle Centre released 36 juvenile sea turtles into the wild on Saturday 10 December in a public release event. Representatives from Radio Cayman’s Youth Flex show took part in the release.  The centre held a private release in May to mark World Turtle Day. The last public release was last held in 2012 as part of that year’s Pirates Week festivities. The centre subsequently suspended public releases due to health concerns, but has since implemented more rigorous health screening procedures for the turtles prior to their release. The Cayman Turtle Centre has released over 31,000 turtles into the wild over its 40-plus years in existence.
