Chasing the perfect picture

Photographer Chase Darnell is heading to Bali after winning one of the top prizes in an international underwater photography competition.

His picture of a surfer escaping the turbulence of an overhead wave picked up first prize in the surf category.

Mr. Darnell, who works for Cayman Turtle Divers, hails from Texas and many of his images have been used in television documentaries here in Cayman.

He feels his job is made that much easier, because of the natural beauty this country has to offer, both on land, and under the ocean.

“A photographer is only as good as the subjects he’s photographing,” he said. “And I’m lucky enough to live and work in one of the most beautiful places in the world.

“It’s obviously a great honour to get the recognition of winning an award but to be honest, I’m extremely lucky to have a job that I love and I just hope I can carry on taking great pictures in the fabulous setting.”

Mr. Darnell has been kind enough to share some of his favourite snaps with our readers.
