Caymanian found dead with wife at his side

A Caymanian living in Florida has been found dead in his car with his wife’s body at his side.

Police believe Ronald Bennette shot dead his partner Shani Bennette then turned the gun on himself.

The bodies were discovered inside a silver Ford Explorer outside a home in the Pembroke Pines district. 

Investigators say at this point they don’t know why Mr. Bennette, 38, who worked for Spirit Airlines, killed his 39-year-old wife.

Eight years ago, Mr. Barrette was jailed here in Cayman after he admitted assaulting two women.

The assault actually happened in 2002, but Mr. Bennette left the country after his first court appearance and never returned for seven years.

He jailed for a further six months for failing to surrender to custody.

At the time, the court heard how the victims of the assaults were Mr. Bennette’s child’s mother and her mother. The younger woman was stabbed in the  and shoulder; her mother received three stab wounds to her chest.

Pembroke Pines is located around 30 miles north of Miami and 20 miles south of Fort Lauderdale. 

Pembroke Pines is situated in between Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
