JULY

CARIFESTA SHOWCASE FRIDAY, 28-30: Enjoy a cultural extravaganza with theatre, dance, music, visual arts, heritage and fashion at the Harquail Theatre from 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday. Performances by Swanky Kitchen Band, Dance Cayman, and Playground theatre production. Exhibits by Isy B, Jawara Alleyne, The National Gallery and the National Museum. Admission is $25. SATURDAY, 29: Mark your diary and get ready to enjoy some much deserved retail therapy. Camana Bay hosts their annual Summer Sidewalk sale. The sale starts promptly at 11 a.m.

LAUGHTER LOUNGE COMEDY SHOW SATURDAY, 29: The Laughter Lounge Comedy Show returns to Margaritaville with a show that promises ample of laughs. The show kicks-off at 8 p.m. at Margaritaville, George Town, with featured comedian Sinck from Comic View. The show will be hosted by Mike Troy from the Chapelle Show and Days of our Lives. BOAT SHOW

SATURDAY, 29: Harbour House Marina hosts their 13th annual Boat Show at their Marina Drive location, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy fabulous discounts on boats and chandlery, enter to win some amazing prizes, test-drive a boat, and enjoy a selection of food and drink.

SUMMER SIZZLE FASHION SHOW

PUB QUIZ

WEDNESDAY, 2: Cayman Animal Rescue Enthusiasts – CARE – hosts their monthly fundraising quiz night at Pirate’s Den, with a 7 p.m. start. It costs just $10, with teams up to six and there will be drink specials throughout the night. All funds raised support CARE’s ongoing animal rescue efforts. JAMAICA INDEPENDENCE CELBRATIONS

FRIDAY, 4: Celebrate Jamaica’s Independence with a slew of festivities throughout the day. From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cardinal Avenue will play host to food stalls, performing artists, and product displays. Night activities span from 7 p.m. until 2 a.m. and include a gospel concert followed by performances by local groups, as well as headline act comedians Ity & Fancy Cat. The evening festivities will be held in the Jacques Scott Compound. Sponsored by Cayman’s favourite newspaper, The Cayman Reporter. Admission is free to all events.

JAMAICA INDPENDENCE PRAYER, CONCERT

SATURDAY, 5: Enjoy a prayer breakfast, lunch, and concert in celebration of Jamaica’s 55th Independence Day at the Mary Miller hall. The event starts at 7 a.m. with a prayer breakfast followed at 9 a.m. by a wide range of activities including displays of Jamaican products from several Cayman based Jamaican companies. There will also be entertainment for the kids, including a bouncy castle, water slide, and face painting, as well as a host of traditional Jamaican delicacies to savour. A talent show will be held from noon until 3 p.m. A gospel concerts follows. Gates for the concert open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 prepaid, $25 at the gate.

NOM-ASTE YOGA BRUNCH

SUNDAY, 6: Yoga enthusiast and chef Brittani Seymour hosts a relaxing yoga session followed by a selection of small plates prepared by chef Jessica Moore. COWGIRL DANCE OFF

FRIDAY, 11: Don your best Stetson hat and cowboy boots and head on down to Lone Star Bar & Grill for the Seven Mile Beach bar’s 11th annual Cowgirl Dance Off. The fun starts at 9 p.m. and runs until late. The event is free and there is a grand price of $1,000 for the best bar top dancer.

CULTURE AT THE CINEMA

SATURDAY, 19: Enjoy a screening of Saint Joan at Regal Cinema, Camana Bay. The screening is part of Culture at the Cinema, a monthly event that brings internationally renowned stage performances to the Cayman Islands, filmed live at venues around the world. Saint Joan tells the story of the charismatic Joan of Arc. Bernard Shaw’s classic play depicts a woman with all the instinct, zeal and transforming power of a revolutionary. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the screening starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $40 and include a glass of bubbly.

NATIONAL RUGBY 7s 5K

SUNDAY, 20: The Cayman Islands National Rugby 7s hold their second annual 5k fundraiser, offering seven fun ways for the entire family to participate and get fit – run, walk, bicycle, scooter, roller blade, skateboard, and stroller for infants. Admission is $20; $15 for those aged 8 to 12 years and free to little ones under the age of 8. Payment can be made on the day or at the South Sound Rugby Club between Tuesdays and Thursdays. The run kicks off at 6:30 a.m. at Camana Bay.

SEPTEMBER

CRISIS CENTRE GALA

SATURDAY, 16: The Cayman Islands Crisis Centre hosts their annual fundraising dinner and auction, Opa! My Big Fat Greek Gala, at Ristorante Pappagalo. Guests will be transported to the mythical times of Ancient Greece, and the event will feature themed cocktails, dancing, authentic Greek food and entertainment. Guests are encouraged to don Grecian attire or black-tie. Tickets are $150, or $1,250 for groups of 10. All proceeds will assist CICC in providing abused women and children with emergency shelter and the opportunity to live a life free of violence. For more details email [email protected]

BIG SHAVE

FRIDAY, 22: Hannah’s Heroes Big Shave takes place at The Wicket in Cricket Square, 5-9 p.m.

Organisers are encouraging supporters to forgo their next haircut and opt to shave instead to help raise money for the St Baldrick’s Foundation. Since fundraising began in September 2013, supporters of Hannah’s Heroes have raised US$1.4 million for the St Baldrick’s Foundation. The fundraising shave will feature a silent auction, balloon prize raffle and food and drinks specials from The Brasserie.

CULTURE AT THE CINEMA

SATURDAY, 23: Enjoy a screening of Yerma at Regal Cinema, Camana Bay. The screening is part of Culture at the Cinema, a monthly event that brings internationally renowned stage performances to the Cayman Islands, filmed live at venues around the world. Starring Billie Piper, this award-winning play is set in contemporary London and tells the story of a woman in her 30s who is driven to the unthinkable by her desperate desire to have a child. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the screening starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $40 and include a glass of bubbly.

FESTIVAL OF THE SEAS

SATURDAY, 30: The Central Caribbean Marine Institute hosts their annual fundraising event, Festival of the Seas, 5-11 p.m. at Kaibo. This year’s theme is Beach Ball. Guests will be treated to a night of fantastic food, music and dancing. Visit reefresearch.org.

OCTOBER

WALK AND WAG 5K

SUNDAY, 1: The Cayman Islands Humane Society will hold its annual Walk and Wag 5K Charity Fun Walk/Run at Camana Bay. This fundraiser benefits all the dogs and cats at the shelter. Registration fee is $25 per person. Dogs can be collected from the shelter. The first 200 participants will receive a free T-shirt. Sign up via Cayman Active or at the Humane Society.

BREAST CANCER GALA DINNER
